West Coast Swing

West Coast Swing ist ein Tanz für jede Musik mit einem Fokus auf kreative Auseinandersetzung mit der Musik, spontane Freitanzphasen und einem variablen Schrittmuster, das jedem die Möglichkeit gibt seinen eigenen Stil einfließen zu lassen.

Der Name West Coast Swing ist manchmal irreführend, dies hat aber geschichtliche Gründe. West Coast Swing entstand in den 1940er Jahren aus Lindy Hop und wurde zunächst hauptsächlich an der West Küste der USA getanzt. Daher auch der Name. Die für Swingtänze üblichen Bewegungsmuster und Bounces wurden im West Coast Swing im Laufe der Jahre fast vollständig ersetzt. Heute wird der Tanz in einem schmalen Tanzbereich, dem sogenannten Slot, getanzt. Dabei wird viel Wert auf eine ruhige Führung und gleichmäßige Bewegungsmuster gelegt. Dadurch wirkt der Tanz immer sehr flüssig und weich.

Auch musikalisch bewegt sich der West Coast Swing nicht mehr nur in der Swingmusik. Wichtig ist für diesen Tanz nur ein 4/4 takt. Ansonsten wird viel auf moderne Pop-, Rock und R&B Musik getanzt.

So ist für die Verbindung zu den Swingtänzen heute fast nur noch der Name geblieben.

Seit einigen Jahren gibt es West Coast Swing bereits an verschiedenen Orten in Tübingen. Durch die Verbindung mit der Region Stuttgart wächst die große und offene Community stetig weiter und breitet sich inzwischen auch nach Stuttgart aus. Ein großer Teil von West Coast Swing ist der soziale Aspekt. Dabei gehört es zum Tanzen dazu mit vielen verschiedenen Tänzer*innen zu tanzen und sich immer wieder anpassen zu können. Um das zu üben, wird auch im Kurs immer wieder durchgewechselt. Deshalb kannst du dich auch gerne allein zum Kurs anmelden. Außerdem ist das klassische Bild, bei dem der Herr führt und die Dame folgt, beim West Coast Swing angepasst - hier gibt es Leader und Follower. Welche Rolle du tanzen möchtest, kannst du selbst festlegen und gerne auch im Laufe einer Stunde oder des Kurses mal ändern. Solange im Paar geklärt ist, wer für den nächsten Tanz Leader oder Follower tanzt, ist alles bestens. Ihr könnt aber auch während des Tanzes wechseln. West Coast Swing bietet viele Möglichkeiten.

Im Ferienangebot werden wir über Musicality und Technik sprechen. Wie erkenne ich Lieder, wie treffe ich Akzente und wieso können die Profis das bei jedem Lied? 

Außerdem werden wir weiter auf die Technik in den bekannten Figuren eingehen um sicherzustellen, dass ihr das was ihr hört auch vertanzen könnt. Sicherlich wird auch eine neue Figur dabei sein. 

Die Voraussetzungen für den Ferienkurs sind alle Basic Figuren im 6- und 8-Count. Ich freue mich auf euch! 

  

Der Unterricht findet auf deutsch statt. Einzelne Erklärungen sind auf Englisch möglich.

West Coast Swing is a dance for any music with a focus on creative engagement with the music, spontaneous free dance phases and a variable step pattern that gives everyone the opportunity to incorporate their own style.

The name West Coast Swing is sometimes misleading, but there are historical reasons for this. West Coast Swing originated from Lindy Hop in the 1940s and was initially danced mainly on the west coast of the USA. Hence the name. Over the years, West Coast Swing has almost completely replaced the usual swing dance movement patterns and bounces. Today, the dance is danced in a narrow dance area, the so-called slot. Great importance is placed on a calm lead and even movement patterns. As a result, the dance always appears very fluid and smooth.

Musically, West Coast Swing is no longer limited to swing music. Only a 4/4 beat is important for this dance. Otherwise, a lot is danced to modern pop, rock and R&B music.

So the connection to the swing dances today is almost only the name.

West Coast Swing has been held at various locations in Tübingen for several years now. Thanks to the connection with the Stuttgart region, the large and open community continues to grow and is now also spreading to Stuttgart. This ensures regular West Coast parties. A big part of West Coast Swing is the social aspect. It is part of dancing with many different dancers and always being able to adapt. In order to practise this, there will be regular changes in the class. You are therefore welcome to register for the course on your own. In addition, the classic image of the gentleman leading and the lady following is adapted in West Coast Swing - here there are leaders and followers. You can decide for yourself which role you would like to dance and you can also change it during a lesson or course. As long as the couple has decided who will be the leader or follower for the next dance, everything is fine. You can also change during the dance. West Coast Swing offers many possibilities.

 

VACATION PROGRAM SS 25


In the vacation program we will talk about musicality and technique. How do I recognize songs, how do I hit accents and why can the professionals do this with every song?

We will also go into more detail about the technique in the well-known characters to ensure that you can dance what you hear. There will certainly also be a new figure.

The prerequisites for the vacation course are all basic figures in 6- and 8-count. I look forward to seeing you!
