BalFolk bezeichnet Tanzveranstaltungen, bei denen Tänze hauptsächlich aus Frankreich und anderen westeuropäischen Ländern getanzt werden, meistens zu Livemusik.
BalFolk ist alles andere als volkstümlich. Der französische BalFolk hat seine Wurzeln im Folk-Revival der 1970er Jahre. Die einst traditionellen Tänze und auch die Musik entwickeln sich laufend weiter. Es gibt eine wachsende Szene in vielen europäischen Ländern mit Festivals von Portugal bis Litauen. Getanzt wird in Paaren, im Kreis, in Ketten, in Gruppen oder alleine.
Dabei geht es nicht um Perfektion, sondern um die Freude am Tanzen und um die gemeinsame Bewegung zur Musik. Die Tänze sind für alle geeignet, ob mit oder ohne Tanzerfahrung. Die Tanzpartner werden immer wieder getauscht, so dass niemand einen festen Tanzpartner braucht. Bei den Paartänzen werden auch gerne mal die Rollen von Führen und Folgen getauscht und es ist nicht unüblich, dass auch mal ein Mann mit einem Mann und eine Frau mit einer Frau tanzt. Viele Tänze sind so einfach, dass alle auf Anhieb mitmachen können.
Es gibt aber auch anspruchsvollere Tänze, für die man Übung braucht. Das Angebot ist für Einsteiger gedacht. Ihr braucht bequeme Kleidung, Schuhe mit sauberen und am besten glatten Sohlen oder Socken.

BalFolk refers to dance events where dances mainly from France and other Western European countries are danced, usually to live music.
BalFolk is anything but folk. French BalFolk has its roots in the folk revival of the 1970s. The once traditional dances and the music are constantly evolving. There is a growing scene in many European countries with festivals from Portugal to Lithuania. People dance in pairs, in a circle, in chains, in groups or alone. It is not about perfection, but about the joy of dancing and moving together to the music. The dances are suitable for everyone, with or without dance experience. The dance partners are always swapped, so that nobody needs a fixed dance partner. In the couple dances, the roles of leading and following are often swapped and it is not unusual for a man to dance with a man and a woman with a woman. Many dances are so simple that everyone can join in straight away.
However, there are also more challenging dances that require practice. The offere is intended for beginners. You need comfortable clothes, shoes with clean and preferably smooth soles or socks and the desire to move and meet others.
